Photo-Illustration
Because of the wonderful technology available today I divide my work into the Photo-Illustration category where I use programs like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to assist in the execution of my artwork. I will always call this work out as Photo-Illustration so as to not muddy the waters of my traditional work. All of this work is destined for commercial printing uses that require very high resolution of the finished image and ultimate control of color for the printing process. This finished original art is a digital image. Purchases, other than for commercial purposes, will be either high-quality Giclee output prints on watercolor paper or canvas.
My process begins on the computer where I make the composition decisions utilizing one to several images I have taken myself, have been supplied or acquired. I make changes in perspective, add elements, change colors, lighten and darken areas that need it to achieve the look I am going for. I then have them printed via dye-sublimation at a large size and hand-brush paint and airbrush areas I want to enhance, change or improve. The canvas texture and hand brush accents are visible in the final product. Once finished I send that canvas off to be high res scanned. That allows for the images to be used for very large commercial applications.
